Burgerparticipatie in Amstelland. Fopspeen of realiteit?

2004. Gemeenten met gebied in Amstelland komen na langdurig onderling overleg en discussie met vele betrokken partijen tot gemeenschappelijke 'beleidsuitgangspunten voor de toekomst van Amstelland'. Een waardevol initiatief. Om handen en voeten te geven aan het beleid wordt een aantal initiatieven genomen. Een van die initiatieven: het creëren van draagvlak onder de bevolking voor het beleid. De auteur van dit artikel verklaart zich bereid om de kar te gaan trekken.

Citizen Participation in Amstelland

Municipalities in the Amstelland region, a rural area to the southeast of Amsterdam, agreed in 2004 on a number of policies with regard to the future of this region. In order to ensure public support for these policies, a foundation was created, administrated by so-called Protectors of the Amstelland (Beschermers Amstelland). Goal is the preservation of Amstelland as an open, vital agrarian area of great natural value where recreation and farming take place with respect for landscape, nature and cultural heritage. The goal is to be realised by making Amstelland into an icon by marketing the assets of the area, following local governments in a positive critical manner, and bringing together farmers, citizens, commerce, industry and local authorities. Many consultations and discussions with local authorities are necessary in order to realise these aims. These consultations and discussions do not always pass off easily or successfully. Other contacts, for example with commercial partners, are promising.
