Eendenkooien zijn veelal beschreven vanuit het economisch perspectief, de historische geografie of natuurwaarden. Inmiddels is de eendenkooi erkend als cultuurhistorisch landschapselement en vervagen de grenzen tussen natuur en cultuur. Een Kooi op stand wil mede met voorbeelden uit de kunst- en literatuurgeschiedenis aantonen dat de grenzen al in de 18e eeuw werden geslecht.

A duck decoy of standing, the other history of duck decoys.

Duck decoys are a hunting method based on luring ducks. In the past they were mainly described from a historical, economical or ecological point of view. Nowadays we are witnessing a change to a more cultural approach. This cultural view already existed in the 17th and 18th century. Proof thereof is the existence of duck decoys on estates. The duck decoy provides fowl for dinner but can also provide leisure activities and possibly confers a status connected with upper class or even nobility on the estate owner. The high opinion of the contemporary Dutch duck decoys is reflected in paintings, poems and literature.
