In de kwart eeuw van zijn bestaan heeft het Historisch-Geografisch Tijdschrift zich een eigen plaats verworven in geografisch Nederland. Terugblikkend op de inhoud van de tot nu toe verschenen jaargangen wordt geschetst wat de betekenis is geweest van het Tijdschrift voor de eigen achterban en voor de buitenwereld. Tevens wordt de redactie van het jubilerende Tijdschrift voor de komende periode een beleidsadvies aangereikt.

Twenty-five years Historisch-Geografisch Tijdschrift and the Historical Geography in the Netherlands

By establishing the Historisch-Geografisch Tijdschrift, the initiators intended to create an opportunity for junior researchers to publish the results of their investigations in a specialized journal. During the twenty-five years of its existence a multiplicity of subjects has been under discussion in the Tijdschrift. By this, the journal has functioned as a unifying factor in the small but fragmented world of Dutch historical geography. Moreover, it has given historical geography a more distinguished position in public debate as well as in the academic world. With respect to the development of historical geography as a discipline, however, the contribution of the journal has been less pronounced. Therefore, it is recommended to the editorial board to guard this aspect of the historical geography more carefully.
