De zogenaamde natuur- of bosbaden worden in overzichten van cultuurhistorische objecten zelden genoemd. Toch vormen ze een interessante groep, die inzicht geeft in de opkomst van de massale recreatie in de eerste helft van de 20e eeuw. Het zijn bovendien objecten die bedreigd worden. Een economische exploitatie blijkt moeilijk en vaak voldoen ze niet aan de steeds stringentere voorschriften.

Swimming pools in the woods; some examples

From the beginning of the 20th century open air bathing increased in popularity for many years. This resulted in the construction of open-air swimming pools, often situated in woodland. Nowadays only three pools remain in the province of Utrecht, but they too are under threat, due to strict regulations and financial deficits. A great effort should be made to keep them open as swimming pools. If not, a new use, respecting the characteristics of the open-air facility, has to be found.
