20 jaar HGVU: het thema water en cultuurhistorie.

Een lustrum vieren, hoe doe je dat? De Historisch Geografische Vereniging Utrecht stond aan vooravond van haar lustrum, begin 2000, voor deze vraag. Het antwoord leek niet eenvoudig. In het verleden heeft de HGVU al drie keer uitgebreid bij haar lustra stilgestaan. Meestal in de vorm van een congresdag en een publicatie. En dan bij voorkeur rond een actueel onderwerp. In het volgende artikel een schets van de lange, soms moeilijke weg om tot een goede lustrumviering te komen. Hierbij krijgen de voornaamste 'producten' van dit lustrum, de Kansenkaart Cultuurhistorie en Water en het Lustrumcongres, ruim de aandacht.

20 years HGVU: the theme 'water and cultural heritage'

September 19th. 2002, the Utrecht Historical Geographical Society (HGVU) organized a conference on the relationship between water and heritage. The role of history and heritage in water management in the Netherlands is still limited. By organizing this conference and drawing up an interactive map the HGVU hopes to add to this role. Outcomes of discussions and fieldwork that took place during the conference were made use of in the composition of this interactive map, which features historical sites and water related structures as an inspiration for future development.
