Het Veluwse dorp Laag-Soeren is voorgedragen als beschermd dorpsgezicht. De aanwijzing komt voort uit het Monumenten Selectie Project, waarin de meest waardevolle gebouwen en stads- en dorpsgezichten uit de periode 1850-1940 zijn geselecteerd. Bestudering van de 19e-eeuwse markeboeken maakt duidelijk dat één persoon, Carel Otto van Kesteren, een sterk stempel op het dorp heeft gedrukt.

The meaning of Carel Otto van Kesteren for the village Laag-Soeren.

The village Laag-Soeren (Gelderland, the Netherlands) has been nominated to be protected as a 'beschermd dorpsgezicht' (protected village). After studylng the 'marken-boeken' (commoners books) from the 19th century, it is made clear that only one person, Carel Otto van Kesteren, is responsable for the development of this village. He initiated the building of all the important monuments, e.g. the estate, four watermills and a bathing house. These action brought him in several conflicts with the other 'markegenoten'(commoners).
